ARCHIVE FILE
A file that has been processed through a system utility that compresses one or many files into a file. Compression rates can be as high as 85%. The most common archive utilities are PKZIP and WinZip, which create a *.ZIP file for PC-compatible systems, and Stuffit, which creates .SIT and .SEA files for Machintosh systems.
