APPLICATION SOFTWARE
A general terms referring to software programs that perform bussiness tasks, such as accouting, word processing, and data (value) management. Contrasted with infrastructure or system software, application software deals specially and exclusively with information related to a direct business result. For example, software that manipulates and manages data values is applicable software (e.g., Oracle Financials). Software that manages the database itself is system sofware (e.g. Oracle).
