SVC
An assembler language instruction that causes a hardware interruption when executed. The operating system then passes control to a program referred to as a Supervisor call. A virtual circuit established as needed in a logical switching network such as Frame Relay or ATM. Similar to a telephone call for voice circuits. Contrast with PVC.
