STAT MUX
In communications, a device that statistically merges several lower-speed channels into a single higher-speed channel (and vice versa) by sharing the bandwidth on an as-needed basis. Internal buffering is provided for those times when the sum of the lower-speed inputs exceeds the capacity of the higher-speed channel.
