PUBLIC-KEY CRYPTOGRAPHY
An encryption that is composed of two keys, one public and one private. The public key is used to encrypt the data and the private key is used to decrypt the data. Certificate authorities are needed to guarantee the authenticity of the public key. Also called asymmetric key cryptography.
