PARITY
In computerisation, a logical value used for error checking indicating whether there are an even or odd number of logical 1's in a group of bits. The value is obtained by performing an exclusive-or (XOR) on successive bits in the group. If the bit group is an octet (byte), the parity check is known as a vertical redundancy check, VRC. See XOR.
