Network Address Translation (NAT) maps multiple private addresses inside a local network to a public IP address before transferring the information onto the internet. Basically, one or more local IP address is translated into one or more Global IP address and vice versa to provide Internet access to the local hosts. NAT generally operates on a router or firewall.
